Happy 75th to Narnia! Prince Caspian Special Podcast

The above recording (audio only) is from 2013 and was made when everyone hoped a new Narnia movie was not far off. As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first published story, it seemed fitting to revisit this podcast mini-series.

This was the second of seven shows, with a different special guest in each episode (one for each book). Each show was divided into the following segments:

  1. The Story Behind the Story

  2. Short Summary of the Book

  3. Favorite Characters Discussion

  4. Unique Aspects of this Story

  5. General Discussion (a variety of questions related to the book).

William O’Flaherty led the hosting duties for each show and the co-hosts were Paul Martin and Dr. Crystal Hurd. The special guest for this one was Dr. Devin Brown.

For the general discussion, these were the questions that were addressed:

 – PC is one of the most developed characters. What important aspects of his character do we see in this story that may develop in the other stories, or can be seen as a contrast?

 – How is obedience portrayed in this story? Is it always a simple decision?

 – There’s a notation that a trailor’s actions don’t always turn out as intended, meaning sometimes good results happen. How is that seen in Prince Caspian?

 – What do we learn from the power struggles portrayed?

 – “Strange Help” is an expression used in the book. What does it mean?

 – Why do the kids at the start of Prince Caspian seem to forget the lessons they learned previously?

 – What do the characters Nikabrik and the Old Hag bring to the story?

 – Final Thoughts from Devin
