Were you aware that C.S. Lewis tied the knot twice…to the same woman?! I’m not making this up…
It may sound like one of those urban legends, but C. S. Lewis married Joy Davidman two times. Why did he do this? The first time around Lewis was just being a friend to Joy. She was a native of New York, who was at risk of being deported from England. So they had a civil ceremony for his British citizenship to be extended to her.
Interestingly enough, Lewis didn’t want this to be public knowledge. But then she became ill and Lewis realized how much he cared for her and had a Christian wedding in the hospital at her bedside to proclaim his love for her.
