RETROSPECT: March 22nd – 31st

Highlights for the final third of March (22nd – 31st) include: Publication of The Four Loves, his first essay collection and republication of a landmark professional work.

During the last decade of Lewis’s life his Christian-themed titles had less to do with defending the faith and more with sharing his understanding of a variety of aspects of it. The Four Loves, released on the 28th in 1960 is one of those works where he shares his wisdom on a topic related to the faith he had gained a greater understanding of over his life. Many individuals are not aware of the fact that two years prior to the book release Lewis had given ten radio talks on this theme.

All About C S Lewis (Reggie Gates)

There are a variety of books available about the writings of C.S. Lewis (in addition to the biographies) and you can find a decent amount of material online about his life and writings. However, there are not too many audio based resources. One great FREE resource that has been around for nearly six years is called “All About C S Lewis.” Reggie Gates has been an enthusiast of Lewis’s writings for many decades and provides excellent podcast that are somewhat like what you make get from CliffsNotes, only it’s in audio.

RETROSPECT: January 1st – 10th

Highlights for the first third of January (1st – 10th) include: Two books published for the first time (one posthumously), two paperback debuts, and initial US versions of two of his books.

If you’ve been reading this series for any three month span, you likely noticed he wrote a good variety of books (some being published after his death). Sometimes I’ve noted when Lewis’s books were released in the US for the first time or when debuting in paperback editions. During this short period a total of six books became available in one of these forms or another.

It was on the 6th in 1944 that The Abolition of Man was released. This is the only book of totally new material during this third segment of January.
