C.S. Lewis had many friends…the most famous was J.R.R. Tolkien, whom he worked with for many years at Oxford University. Just as with Lewis, there are many misconceptions about Tolkien. One is that he “read very little modern fiction, and took no serious notice of it.” Dr. Holly Ordway has studied the issue for many years and discovered Tolkien was much more aware of modern culture and the inspiration for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings was not only medieval. She joined William O’Flaherty for a podcast interview to share her insightful findings. Dr. Lisa Coutras also joined the show to help with co-hosting.
