RETROSPECT: September 12th – 21st

Highlights for September 12th -21st include: Another Narnia book published, a landmark professional title, a final poetry book and the start of his third broadcast series.

If you thought the previous ten day span over the years was a productive period for Lewis, then you will be no less amazed at what occurred during this time. In the above highlights I didn’t even mentioned the autobiography that came out on the 19th in 1955. Surprised by Joy: The Shape of My Early Life is not a typical life story “as told by the author.” The subtitle tries to suggest the different approach of the book and in the preface Lewis elaborates further about this point. He notes that the main goal is to “tell how I passed from Atheism to Christianity,” but he actually expresses skepticism that anyone would want to read about

C.S. Lewis vs the New Atheists #1 – Series Overview

Last year (2013) there were many books released about C.S. Lewis. One you might have missed is C.S. Lewis vs the New Atheists. While I did a single interview about this book by Peter S. Williams shortly after its released, I felt the material is so useful that it deserved an entire series of shows. Thus, the following is the first of eight programs devoted to the book. This debut episode provides an overview of the entire book. In addition to William O’Flaherty producing and hosting the show, Peter Byrom joins as co-host for the series.

Lewis Resources on Dr. Diana Glyer’s Site

If you have explored the places I’ve highlighted since the beginning of the year you’ve probably noticed many Lewis scholars have websites. Some have material just on Lewis, or like the one this, they have other material in additional to the content related to Lewis. While Dr. Diana Glyer has more than Lewis information than I’ll spotlight here, that just points to the importance of exploring the rest of her site.

Several years ago Glyer contributed to a book where she provided a bibliography of every book-length study of C.S. Lewis. Listed as a main heading on her site as C.S. Lewis Bibliography, this area (as she notes on the page) has a goal of providing “a brief description of the content and also a sense of the quality and importance of this book.
