Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis is frequently cited as a favorite book; but did you know that it all began on the radio?
Most who are familiar with Lewis’s Narnia books know it all started with a picture in his mind. The origin of Mere Christianity, however, is not as commonly known. It actually started as a series of talks on the radio in England which lead to them being published in three different parts or books before the famed book we know today.
In early August 1941, Lewis had his on-air debut. While committing to only four talks originally they were so popular that he gave in and did more, leading to the publication of the first book, known in the U.S. as The Case for Christianity.
